  • Sam is a true collaborator and rare talent. His capacity to translate dance on camera and reveal new perspective’s in a poetic and powerful way is inspiring. Sam’s work has the capacity to move and ability to connect. It's a true pleasure to create a meaningful body of work with such an insightful, talented and creative artist.

  • The thing that sets Sam apart from other dance film creators is that he has taken the time and effort to immerse himself in the world of dance and understand it from the inside out, to the point of taking training in ballet so he could learn the terminology and actually speak the language of his subjects. I've never worked with a filmmaker who is so genuinely enthralled by dance, as much as they are by film, and this in turn creates a beautiful energy in the creative process. Therein is the magic of his films.

  • Sam is a quintessential professional. His work is unmatched. His preparation and execution are exceptional. Collaborating with him as both a school and as an Artistic Director was such a pleasure as he produced something that aligned to his vision and to that of the needs of our institution. He creates a safe, dynamic and inspiring work environment that inspired our students to shine.

Artistic Director Royal Ballet School Antwerp

  • Sam’s care and attention to detail of not only the performers in front of the camera, but to all the artists involved and their work (in my case the costume design), inspires and encourages everyone to keep giving their best. Working alongside Sam was a highly collaborative and creative process and also very enjoyable and a lot of fun. Sam and his camera dance and breathe with the dancers, connecting to the choreography to create films and images that you don’t just watch, but feel.

    Costume Designer

  • Sam is a visual artist with a solid understanding of the balletic line and a strong love for the artform. He has taken ballet classes himself and developed a deep personal respect for the hard work quality dancing requires. This understanding has equipped him with a common language through which he can communicate his artistic vision with dancers for smooth shooting and stunning images. In my opinion as a professional ballet dancer and repetitor, the ballet world can count itself lucky that someone of Sam’s rare passion and talent has fallen in love with dance, and enjoys sharing its beauty with the greater public.

    Former Ballet Dancer and Repititor

  • Sam’s approach to his art is unique, bringing an incredible eye for detail and sympathy to movement that I have not seen before. His use of the camera enhances the movements inherent in the choreography, bringing a greater depth to the work. Sam’s attention to detail here, in the connection of sound and movement is also rare, as is his openness in collaboration. In all of these my admiration for Sam’s artistry grew, as I was exposed to his methods and thinking. I consider myself lucky to be able to call Sam a colleague and a friend.
